It seems that every day there is new information in the world regarding the pandemic, politics and the economy. Unfortunately, more of it bad than good. This can be difficult on the psyche, causing us symptoms of anxiety, stress, fatigue and more. So, how do we get through all of this and stay positive? One way for us to stay positive is to limit our intake of the news. The news is being reported on a whole host of outlets, including radio, TV and online. While it may be tempting to turn on each and every broadcast to see what is new and has changed, it may not be the healthiest choice. It may be helpful to limit your intake to a few hours a day or less. Allow yourself some respite from every day outside worries. However, you should not discount the positives of online use. Harness the power of the web to surround yourself with a ‘digital community’ and friends. Find the community that speaks to your values, interests, hobbies and more. During this time of social distancing, utilizing the web can be a great option. In addition, video can be a great way to feel connected to new and old friends. From services such as Zoom to social media, video calls can help you feel close to those you love during a time of isolation. You may also find satisfaction offline as well. Try new breathing exercises, such as yoga and meditation. These practices can help to steady the mind and make you feel recharged. In fact, meditation is a simple practice available to all, which can reduce stress, increase calmness and clarity and promote happiness. The key during this time is to find what works best for you and your needs. Do not be afraid to try new things until you find what best suits you. |
