Executive Director, Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants

Summary

The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Society, and has charge of the operations, finances, employees, and offices of the Society. The Executive Director recommends and participates in the formulation of new policies and makes decisions within existing Society policy. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, acting as the spokesperson for the Society and the accounting profession in general, representing the Society and its overall members' interest with local, regional, state, and national governmental bodies, fostering the growth and general business health of the Society's members, their companies and firms, and generally performing such other duties as may be required by the Society, the Board of Directors, or the President of the Board. The Executive Director maintains a future-oriented approach to management and anticipates the directions of the profession while promoting the image of CPAs to the public and for all members.

Skills

Written and oral communication skills, including the ability to speak extemporaneously on accounting and Society professional issues; Proficient in use of information technology; Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various documents including, but not limited to, legal documents and financial statements; Ability to interact, negotiate, represent, and counsel with members, governmental bodies, organizations, and associations at the local, regional, state, and national levels.

Qualifications

High level of energy and enthusiasm for the job; Fiscally responsible; Well-developed sense of ethics; Strong leadership skills in people and project management, including motivation, mentorship, diplomacy, timelines, sensitivity and compassion; Proven ability to deal effectively with complex issues, think analytically and strategically, and negotiate successfully for win/win solutions in a diverse group; Understanding and appreciation of the importance of staff culture, chapters, continuing professional education, diverse member groups, and statewide public relations.

Education

Degree in Business Management Organization or equivalent experience in member association management.

Salary Range

$60,000-$70,000 – The person hired will begin as Associate Executive Director on November 1, 2012, and become Executive Director on April 1, 2013, upon the retirement of the current Executive Director, and the salary will increase to $85,000 plus $6,000 car allowance.

Hours

Normal Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, much flexibility and additional hours are required in order to meet the needs of the Society members and the larger accounting community. Travel to regional and national meetings and throughout Arkansas is required.
