The Accountancy Licensee Database (ALD) and CPAverify were highlighted as resources available to State Boards to support them in their enforcement efforts at the recent Eastern and Western Regional Meetings, held in Philadelphia, PA and Anchorage, AK respectively. During the Enforcement Breakout Session that focused on using available resources effectively, Elizabeth Bachhuber and Rebecca Gebhardt shared some of the features of the ALD and CPAverify that are most helpful in general Board research and in Board investigations.

This information is also included in the Enforcement Resource Guide, within Component 8: Recording and Publicly Reporting Decisions and Sanctions. The Guide was emailed to all Executive Directors in June of 2012. For your own copy of the full Enforcement Resource Guide please email Linda Biek at [email protected].

As a single source for current license information and disciplinary action, the ALD lends itself to being a key component for your own enforcement efforts at the state level and nationwide in the following ways:

  1. The ALD houses disciplinary data for licensees. Sending all disciplinary data is highly recommended so that all State Boards can take full advantage of the database. Only authorized State Board staff and limited NASBA staff have access to this information, so it remains secure and private.
  • Disciplinary details are available through official verification with the appropriate State Board or in the ALD for authorized State Board and NASBA staff only.
  • For the public, CPAverify displays an indicator when disciplinary history is present for a licensee, with a message that says, "Contact State Board for Details."
  1. Licensee records are linked across state lines, so you can quickly see other states where a person is licensed and cross reference state records to compare a CPA's licensing and disciplinary history.

  2. Disciplinary email alerts are sent to EDs and designated Board Staff when a licensee has had his/her license suspended or revoked by a State Board in a different state. Please contact Elizabeth, the ALD Manager, to view a sample disciplinary email alert.

  3. Upon receipt of disciplinary email alerts, some State Boards may choose to send out warning letters to the disciplined individuals to let them know a case has been opened. The sample warning letter developed by the Tennessee State Board is available in the Enforcement Resource Guide Sample Documents section, or please contact Elizabeth who will send you the document by email.
