With the start of a new year, there are endless possibilities. Absolutely, there are personal goals each of us would like to accomplish, but what about your professional goals? Are you satisfied in your current role? Do you know what you want to pursue next, but you are unsure where to begin? Or do you simply want to break bad habits that have plagued your career? Many successful professionals have shared their proven ways for establishing positive habits and setting themselves up for success. Let’s explore some of those methods now.

As a professional in any industry or field, it is vital to stay abreast of trends in your industry, the latest headlines and breaking news and even pop culture. You never know where or when you will get your next groundbreaking idea. Carve out time throughout your week to do such reading. Although it may seem like your schedule could not possibly accommodate yet another task, remember that making the time for your personal growth will help enhance your creativity and keep you current.

Waking up early, like Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, and many other executives, has been said to help you kick-start your day. By rising early, you have the opportunity to exercise, meditate, read the paper, eat a proper breakfast and check emails all before most have gotten out of bed. In addition, the extra time will help you ease into your day, so that once you arrive at the office you are fully awake and ready.

Lastly, surround yourself with the right people. Seek out and build rapport with individuals who have more experience than you do in your industry, those who have found success on their journey, or those who carved out their own path and are excelling at doing things their way. You become most like those that you associate yourself with on a regular basis. If you are lacking the knowledge in specific areas or want to inherit certain traits that you do not yet possess, surround yourself with people who excel in these areas and learn as much as you can. Spend time with these individuals and let them inspire you and move you forward.
