From the flat land of central Florida to the mountainous region of California, NASBA leaders traveled to opposite ends of the United States to host this year’s NASBA Regional Meetings. With much changing in the accounting landscape, these meetings served as important discussions that highlighted the latest hot topics, from technology, to pathways to CPA, to legislation and everything in between.

Open to all members of the 55 U.S. Boards of Accountancy, NASBA Regional Meetings provide gathering spaces for board members and staff to come together to discuss issues and new regulatory developments facing the accounting profession. Eastern Regional Meeting attendees, totaling 163 in attendance, traveled to the hot, magical land of Orlando, FL, and Western Regional Meeting attendees, totaling 176 in attendance, made their way to the crisp mountain air region of Olympic Valley/Lake Tahoe, CA. In total, 51 out of the 55 Boards of Accountancy were represented at the meetings.

This year’s regional meeting presentations included topics such as:

• Considering a New Pathway to CPA
• Overview of International Agreements
• Asked and Answered: Report of the Reorganization Impact Task Force
• Education Research Projects
• Legal Update
• Report from the CPA Examination Review Board
• Cryptocurrency and Regulation
• Uniform CPA Examination Developments
• Ethics: What’s on the Horizon
• Reaching Out – Joining Forces
• Boards and Sexual Harassment

Held annually, the regional meetings are an integral part of NASBA’s mission — to enhance the effectiveness and advance the common interests of the Boards of Accountancy. Many questions were answered, concerns heard, relationships formed and invigorating discussions happened. Along with the session presentations, NASBA’s executive leadership hosted a Q&A session, and breakout sessions were held, which allowed regions to discuss hot topics in a smaller setting. Couldn’t make it this year? Plan ahead and make sure to attend one of next year’s meetings. Additional details coming soon!
