Today marks the release of NASBA’s two candidate performance publications, Candidate Performance on the Uniform CPA Examination – Jurisdiction Edition and Candidate Performance on the Uniform CPA Examination – University Edition, as well as a specialized report for universities, the Annual University Brief. Featuring comprehensive, statistical data from the 2016 Uniform CPA Examination, the publications and report are available for purchase on nasbareport.com.

Designed specifically with the State Boards of Accountancy in mind, the Jurisdiction Edition provides a broad view of Uniform CPA Examination trends from around the world. The year 2016 was noteworthy as 102,323 candidates sat for the CPA Exam. This 9% increase is in large part due to anticipation of the next version of the Exam scheduled for April 1, 2017.  Performance metrics also indicate 27,960 candidates passing their fourth section of the Uniform CPA Examination while 19,227 dropped out of the Exam process.

The University Edition highlights school performance on many levels, including: international, national, regional, state and accreditation. University rankings are also a prominent feature of this edition. The University Edition reports that during calendar year 2016, students from 20 universities recorded an average first-time pass rate at or above 80%. The national average first-time pass rate was 54.4%.

In 2016, NASBA introduced the Annual University Brief for a deeper view of performance metrics from individual schools. This comprehensive, four-year report (2013-2016) goes beyond the data in the University Edition by offering cohort tracking, pipeline reporting and content area performance on unique programs.

Background data for these publications was obtained directly from the Accountancy Boards’ submission of eligible candidate information into NASBA’s Gateway System, and then analyzed and assembled by Editor, Matthew Wilkins, and Contributing Editors, Greg Gaynor and Mark M. Ulrich.

The Jurisdiction & University Editions are available in paperback and eBook formats. Paperback copies are priced at $100 each for the 2016 Jurisdiction Edition and $200 each for the 2016 University Edition. A bundle of the two publications is available for $250 and the Annual University Brief is priced at $200. Publication sample downloads and order forms are available through nasbareport.com.

NASBA began gathering data on CPA Examination candidates in 1982, and has published reports on performance and selected characteristics since 1985. These improvement efforts represent a continuation of NASBA’s ongoing role as a reliable and trusted resource to the accounting profession and academic community.
