On Thursday, May 5, NASBA’s Nominating Committee selected Theodore (Ted) W. Long, Jr., CPA, of Shaker Heights, Ohio, as the Committee’s nominee for the office of NASBA vice chair, 2016-2017.

Ted has served in numerous capacities as a NASBA member since 1988. As a member of the NASBA Board of Directors, he served as Great Lakes regional director, from 2004-2007, and as director-at-large, from 2008-2013. He is also a former chair of NASBA’s Global Strategies, Administration & Finance (Treasurer), CPE Advisory (three terms), Relations with Member Boards (two terms) and Bylaws Committees.

Additionally, Ted has served, and continues to serve, as a member of various NASBA committees and task forces including Awards (2015-2016), Administration and Finance (2014-2016), Global Strategies, Strategic Planning, CEO Selection Advisory, Executive, Audit, CBT Examination Communications, CPA Mobility and International Delivery of the CPA Exam.

Ted is a former member of the Accountancy Board of Ohio. During his tenure with the Ohio Board, he served for 11 years over two terms dating, 1988-1992 and 2000-2006. He was also chair of the Ohio Board from 1990-1992 and 2004-2005. In addition, Ted was a member of the Board’s Disciplinary Action, Peer Review, Licensing, Nominating, Education Assistance and Office Oversight Committees.

As a retired partner from Ernst & Young LLP, Ted brings more than 30 years of experience to the accounting profession, primarily in the area of attest and advisory service. His client service experience was diverse and was comprised of both public and private entities related to and including commercial, manufacturing, financial services, higher education, government and civic institutions.

Ted’s leadership and involvement in various professional, civic and community organizations is extensive. Currently, he is a member of the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company Board of Directors and the ASW Global Advisory Board of Directors. He has also actively served with the following organizations: The American Institute of CPA’s (AICPA); Ohio CPA Society (former board member); Cleveland State University (former faculty-Business School); United Way Services of Cleveland (Audit Committee chair and former board member); Cleveland Metroparks (former Audit Committee member); Urban League (former board member and treasurer); Cleveland Natural History Museum (former Trout Club treasurer); The First Tee of Cleveland (former board member and treasurer).

A Kansas native, Ted received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Finance) from Wichita State University.
