Are you ready for the next chapter of your career? We understand the world is a bit topsy-turvy right now, and you may be interested in looking for a new job for many reasons. Whether you were recently let go or are hungry for a new challenge, you are ready to pursue new opportunities. But with stay-at-home orders and social distancing, how do you prepare for one of the most stressful but important moments on your journey?

Begin by setting your attention to your attire. When in doubt, think about what you would wear to an office meeting or conference. Remember, you only get one chance at a first impression. Be sure your potential employer is left with the best impression of you, as someone who is professional and prepared to step into a new role.

Once you have updated your resume and researched common interview questions, you will be ready to practice participating in a real-time interview. Enlist the help of friends or family to help you prepare for your interview, by asking you a variety of traditional, situational and behavior-based questions. This exercise is sure to help you think on your feet and refresh your memory about past projects and achievements. It may have been some time since you have last needed to think about such things. But now that your situation has changed, it is important to refamiliarize yourself with past milestones and accomplishments of note.

Another way to make sure you are well-prepared for your interview, is to research your potential new employer. Familiarize yourself with their website, LinkedIn pages and leadership team to prepare yourself for potential interview questions you may be asked. This extra step will demonstrate to your interviewer that you are a serious candidate who understands the mission and needs of the company. Are you ready for this next step? You’ve got this! In addition to preparation, remember to be confident! Believing in yourself is key to your success. Exuding confidence will signal to your potential employer that you are a key contributor and know you can handle the tasks that are sure to come your way,  which is reassuring to team leaders. Now, go conquer!
