NASHVILLE, TN (October 26, 2011) – The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) announced its annual awards recipients during its 104th Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, October 24-26, 2011.

Sandra A. Suran, CPA, of Portland, Oregon, was presented with the 2011 William H. Van Rensselaer Award. Established in 1988, the Van Rensselaer Award is in recognition of outstanding achievements as a leader, significant accomplishments and contributions to the effectiveness of state boards in assuring the competence and integrity of licensed accountants in serving the public’s financial reporting needs.

Ms. Suran’s 30-plus-year background in auditing and consulting, along with her genuine passion for positive and effective change, has positioned her as a well-respected leader within the accounting profession, on both local and national platforms. From 1984-1985, Suran served as President of NASBA, becoming the second woman to hold the organization’s top office. The process resulted in the development of new service offerings and a new mission for NASBA, which ultimately led to the organization’s financial independence. Additionally, through her extensive involvement with the AICPA, Suran helped raise the AICPA Board’s and leadership’s respect for NASBA as an invaluable contributor to the accounting profession.

Additionally, Gleason has served NASBA as Central Regional Director and member of the Annual Meeting Planning Committee, Awards Committee, CPA Licensing Examinations Committee and Examination Review Board (ERB).
