A majority of state boards of accountancy in the United States have adopted mobility legislation – which is a practice privilege that generally permits a licensed CPA in good standing from a substantially equivalent state to practice outside of his or her principal place of business without obtaining another license.

NASBA, the state boards of accountancy and the AICPA have developed a valuable tool to help CPAs and accounting firms understand the implications of Mobility as they enter engagements across state lines. The goal was to create a tool that could easily provide a straightforward answer to the common question CPAs when trying to understand mobility, which is “Does Mobility apply to me?”
