CPAMobility.org Helps CPAs Work Seamlessly Across State Lines

NASHVILLE, TENN. (Sept. 22, 2025) – The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) has relaunched CPAMobility.org, a modernized, online resource that helps Certified Public Accountants determine where and how they can practice across state lines.

Practice privilege, or CPA mobility, laws allow CPAs in good standing to serve clients in other states without obtaining a second license, providing certain requirements are met. CPAMobility.org provides licensees with a clear, user-friendly resource for accessing these rules in just a few clicks.

The redesigned website features simplified navigation and enhanced functionality, allowing individuals to search for licensing requirements for different jurisdictions and determine if mobility applies, as a majority of states have adopted mobility legislation.

Updates to the site will allow users to conduct state-by-state searches with ease and view summaries that are concise, verified and approved by the State Boards of Accountancy (Boards) for accuracy and completeness. The NASBA Legal and Accountancy Licensing Library (ALL) teams have also researched the summaries to ensure correctness. The information provided via CPAMobility.org will be continuously updated by NASBA to reflect rapidly changing mobility rules across state boards.

“As new pathways to licensure are being adopted across the country, this is creating new requirements in Board rules regarding practice privilege for their licensees,” said NASBA Director of Compliance Services Amy Tongate. “Mobility is moving from consideration of where a CPA is licensed to how a CPA was licensed – not ‘state-based’ but ‘individual-based.’ The updates to CPAMobility.org make concise practice privilege rules summaries available within a simple search and view.”
