NASBA Announces Updated 2026–2027 Leadership Slate

Leadership Transition

NASHVILLE, TENN. (July 30, 2026) – The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) today announced changes to its 2026–2027 Board leadership slate following the resignation of Vice Chair J. Coalter Baker, CPA, who has stepped down to focus on his health. NASBA’s Board of Directors and staff are deeply grateful for Coalter’s leadership and many contributions to the organization. We extend our heartfelt support to him and his family and wish him strength and a full recovery.

Acting in accordance with NASBA’s Bylaws, the NASBA Nominating Committee approved Katrina L. Salazar, CPA, CGMA, as chair nominee and J. Andy Bonner, CPA, as vice chair nominee.

Following Baker’s resignation, the Nominating Committee reconvened to amend its previously approved slate of officers, ensuring continuity in NASBA’s volunteer leadership. Salazar was previously named the Committee’s vice chair nominee and now becomes its chair nominee. Under NASBA’s Bylaws, vacancies in the leadership slate are filled through action by the Nominating Committee before consideration by the member boards at the Annual Business Meeting.

“Coalter has been a thoughtful and dedicated leader, and we are grateful for his service to NASBA,” said Daniel J. Dustin, CPA, NASBA President and CEO. “While we are sorry to see him step away from this role, we fully support his decision and wish him the very best. Katrina and Andy have each devoted years of service to NASBA and the accounting profession. Their experience, collaborative leadership and commitment to NASBA’s member boards make them exceptionally well prepared for these important roles.”

Salazar has served NASBA in a variety of leadership roles throughout more than a decade of volunteer service. She currently serves as director-at-large and chair of NASBA’s Legislative Support Committee and previously served as secretary and Pacific regional director on the NASBA Board of Directors. She has also chaired several NASBA committees supporting legislative, regulatory and professional initiatives.

Outside of NASBA, Salazar served on the California Board of Accountancy from 2012 to 2024, holding leadership positions including secretary, treasurer, vice president and board president. She also served six years on the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) Board of Examiners, including two years as chair, and previously chaired the AICPA State Board Committee. Professionally, Salazar serves as chief financial officer of the California Correctional Peace Officers Association and brings more than two decades of financial leadership, governance and regulatory experience to NASBA.

Bonner currently serves as treasurer and chair of NASBA’s Administration and Finance Committee. He first joined the NASBA Board of Directors as Southeast regional director (2018–2021) and currently serves as director-at-large. Throughout his tenure, he has chaired multiple committees and played a key role in advancing NASBA’s financial stewardship and legislative priorities.

A certified public accountant and longtime financial executive, Bonner serves as chief financial officer of Homesteader LLC following executive leadership roles in public accounting and community banking. He also serves on the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy, where he previously served as chair, and has held numerous leadership positions with the Tennessee Society of CPAs and the AICPA. His more than four decades of professional experience reflect a longstanding commitment to public service, financial leadership and the accounting profession.

The updated leadership slate will be presented for consideration by NASBA’s member boards during the Annual Business Meeting in October.
