Honoring Excellence in Regulation

On October 28, NASBA honored Janice Gray (OK), Faye Miller (ND) and Viki Windfeldt (NV) as its 2025 award recipients during the 118th Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL. Though their paths and experiences differ, each honoree shares a deep dedication to advancing accounting regulation, supporting NASBA and the Boards of Accountancy and strengthening the integrity of the CPA profession across all 55 U.S. jurisdictions.

Service has always been a driving force for Janice Gray, recipient of the 2025 William H. Van Rensselaer Public Service Award. A former NASBA chair (2018–2019), Gray, of Norman, OK, spent a decade helping to shape the Oklahoma Accountancy Board, where she led the development of the state’s Peer Review Program—an initiative she continues to support through the board’s Peer Review Oversight Committee. Her influence extends nationally through years of leadership on the NASBA Board of Directors and various AICPA committees focused on ethics, standards and peer review.

The NASBA Distinguished Service Award was presented to Faye Miller, of Bismarck, ND. Miller’s career reflects a deep commitment to collaboration and governance. Known for her thoughtful leadership, Miller has served as a director-at-large, Central regional director and chair of NASBA’s Audit and Communications committees. Her service to North Dakota’s regulatory and professional communities includes leading both the State Board of Accountancy and the State CPA Society. Today, she continues her impact as chief auditor for Basin Electric Power Cooperative and a long-serving member and former chair of the CPA Examination Review Board.

The Lorraine P. Sachs Standard of Excellence Award was presented to Viki Windfeldt, of Reno, NV. As the executive director of the Nevada State Board of Accountancy, Windfeldt has spent more than 30 years mentoring fellow executive directors and strengthening regulatory processes through roles on NASBA committees focused on peer review compliance and enforcement. A two-time recipient of this award (previously receiving the award in 2014), Windfeldt is widely admired for her steady leadership and enduring commitment to public protection.
