Each year, National Accounting Day falls on May 19. NASBA loves to celebrate its accounting community year-round, but especially on National Accounting Day! This year, some of NASBA’s in-house CPAs shared their advice for CPA Exam candidates who are on their journey to licensure.

“My advice to a CPA Exam candidate is do not procrastinate! Data shows that candidates pass at higher rates closer to their education than when they wait. Get in there and study and take your Exams while you are still in ‘student mode,’ remembering how to study and take exams from your university days. Even if you now have extended credit dates, don’t slow down on taking your Exams.” – NASBA Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Colleen Conrad, CPA

“Consider taking an in-person study class. It gives you a timetable to follow and will help you stay on schedule and work through the material. It also gives you a sense of community with others studying for the Exam. Each day, schedule two to three hours to study away from distractions (four to eight hours on weekends). This takes away the feeling of not being able to have a life outside of studying for the Exam. Once you finish your study session, move on with your day!” – NASBA Center for the Public Trust Controller Jeremy Davenport, CPA

“Congratulations on your decision to join the CPA profession! Your dedication to the successful completion of the CPA Exam means that you have reached the pinnacle of the licensure process. The long hours spent studying for the CPA Exam are a testament to your commitment to joining a truly rewarding profession, one that provides unending opportunities to engage in what matters most to you. Identify your interests, establish your goals, don’t be afraid to take chances, and always seek opportunities to grow as an individual and professional.” – NASBA Vice President, State Board Relations Daniel J. Dustin, CPA

Whether you are a seasoned CPA or just beginning your Exam journey, NASBA appreciates you and your role in its community! Happy National Accounting Day from your friends at NASBA. Click here to view our National Accounting Day celebratory video: https://www.instagram.com/p/C7EodMthTVo/
