NASHVILLE, TENN. (Nov. 2, 2022) – Donald H. Burkett, CPA, Patti Bowers and John F. Dailey, Jr., CPA, RMA, PSA, were recognized on November 1, 2022, for their leadership and efforts to advance the accounting profession by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), during NASBA’s 115th Annual Meeting, held in San Diego, CA. The meeting attracted representatives from 53 U.S. jurisdictions.

Donald H. Burkett, CPA, of West Columbia, SC, received the William H. Van Rensselaer Public Service Award, which recognizes individuals who have contributed to the development of a new program, improvement of a current program for the Boards of Accountancy, or who have influenced passage of rules or statutes to strengthen accountancy regulations. Burkett, former president and current vice president of Burkett Burkett & Burkett Certified Public Accountants, P.A., has over 48 years of public accounting experience and serves as chair of the NASBA Center for the Public Trust (CPT) Board of Directors. He is a past chair of NASBA (2015-16) and has held numerous leadership positions as a member of NASBA’s Board of Directors, including Middle Atlantic regional director and vice chair. Currently, he is a member of NASBA’s Past Chair Advisory Council and Ethics Committee. Since 2007, Burkett has been an active member of NASBA and chaired several NASBA committees including its Awards, Legislative Support, Audit, Ethics and Relations with Member Boards Committees.

John “Jack” Dailey, Jr., CPA, RMA, PSA, of Voorhees, NJ, received the NASBA Distinguished Service Award, which honors individuals who have demonstrated an unswerving commitment and dedication to enhancing the mission of NASBA. Most recently, Dailey served as a member of NASBA’s Board of Directors as director-at-large and as chair of its Legislative Support Committee. He was a former Northeast regional director of NASBA and a former chair of NASBA’s CPE, Relations with Member Boards and Peer Review Compliance Committees. Dailey was a retired CPA partner at Bowman & Company LLP at the time of his passing on June 23, 2022, at the age of 71. As a lasting tribute to his love of the profession and support of the next generation of CPAs, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants has established a scholarship in his honor.

Patti Bowers, of Sacramento, CA, received the Lorraine P. Sachs Standard of Excellence Award, which recognizes a current state board executive or administrator that has shown outstanding service to improving the effectiveness of accounting regulation-on local and national fronts. Bowers serves as the executive officer of the California Board of Accountancy (CBA). As executive officer, Bowers has overseen the adoption and implementation of significant consumer protection policies in California including mandatory peer review, enhanced continuing education requirements, enactment of mobility, modifications to the licensure framework, and rigorous enforcement policies. A 30-year veteran of the CBA, she has participated in a number of committees and taskforces that have worked to help support Board of Accountancy operations across the country, including NASBA’s ALD Committee, Accountancy Licensee Database/CPAverify Committee and Strategic Planning Task Force. Bowers also participates in a number of committees, taskforces, and trainings with the Department of Consumer Affairs, which oversees the CBA and other consumer protection boards and bureaus.
