Duties & Responsibilities

The Georgia General Assembly created the Georgia State Board of Accountancy in 1908 for the purpose of protecting the public welfare by providing for the regulation of the practice of public accountancy and the certification of those who are entitled to engage in this practice. The Board has the authority to adopt rules, set standards for licensure, adopt mandatory standards of professional conduct, and investigate and discipline unauthorized, negligent or incompetent practice.

The Board licenses certified public accountants and public accounting firms. The Board is comprised of seven members appointed by the Governor: six members certified public accountants and one member appointed from the public at large. All members are appointed for terms of four years.

The Board is looking for an Executive Director to join the team. Applications will be accepted until August 18th.

Under the direct supervision of the Board, the Executive Director will have the primary duties and responsibilities as follows:

  • Responsible for the administration of Board policy.
  • Supervises the Board staff members in all functions of the Board.
  • Plans and coordinates regular and special Board meetings including assisting the Board Chair in the development of agendas for Board meetings, preparation of minutes and furnishes Board members with information needed to carry out the regulatory duties of the Board.
  • Arranges sites for Board meetings, public hearings, disciplinary hearings, and CPA Certificate Presentations.
  • Consults with the Board?’s attorney, other state accountancy boards and State and National Agencies to keep the Board informed of current trends and issues.
  • Participates in conferences and other activities relating to professional training, licensure, or practice.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Written and oral communication skills, including the ability to speak on accounting and other professional issues;
  • Proficient in use of information technology;
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various documents including, but not limited to, legal documents and financial statements;
  • Ability to interact, negotiate, represent, and counsel with members, governmental bodies, organizations, and associations at the local, regional, state, and national levels.

Agency Specific Qualifications and/or Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor?s degree in Accounting with more than five years of experience managing others. CPA, Master’s Degree in Accounting or MBA preferred.
