Reciprocal Licenses

A CPA who is seeking an Arkansas reciprocal license under ACA 17-12-308(b) may obtain an individual substantial equivalency evaluation from CredentialNet.

A CPA should also complete the Arkansas State Board of Accountancy’s Application for a Reciprocal License as a Certified Public Accountant and send it directly to the Arkansas Board. This form can be obtained by contacting the Arkansas Board at 501-682-1520.

Individual Substantial Equivalency Evaluation Requirements

The evaluation is the same for reciprocal licensure applicants and practice privilege applicants and is based on requirements outlined in the UAA:

Pathway 1

  • Good moral character;
  • Successful completion of the Uniform CPA Examination;
  • Active licensure in some state;
  • Four years of experience in public accounting, industry, government or academia verified by an actively licensed CPA within the ten years immediately preceding the application. This experience shall include providing any type of service or advice involving the use of accounting, attest, compilation, management advisory, financial advisory, tax or consulting skills. Note: The Arkansas State Board of Public Accountancy does not allow self-verification of experience per Board Rules.

Pathway 2

  • Good moral character;
  • A baccalaureate degree or its equivalent conferred by a college or university acceptable to the Board, with an accounting concentration or equivalent as determined by Board rule to be appropriate. Note: Applicants who passed the CPA Exam and hold a valid license issued by any state prior to January 1, 2012 may be exempt from the education requirement;
  • Successful completion of the CPA Exam;
  • One year of experience in public accounting, industry, government or academia verified by an actively licensed CPA. This experience shall include providing any type of service or advice involving the use of accounting, attest, compilation, management advisory, financial advisory, tax or consulting skills. Note: The Arkansas State Board of Public Accountancy does not allow self-verification of experience per Board Rules.

The following fees are applicable to the individual substantial equivalency evaluation only. There may be separate fees required by the state for which you are applying. Contact the state board directly for that information.
