NASBA awards more than $18,000 in funding to university faculty and postdoctoral researchers. 2016 Call for Proposals Open August 10 – October 19

NASHVILLE, TENN., (AUGUST 10, 2015) — The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) is excited to announce the recipients of its Accounting Education Research Grants Program for 2015. Faculty and postdoctoral researchers from two U.S. institutions will be awarded research grants totaling $18,100.

2015 Accounting Education Research Grant recipients include:

"Causal Effect of Changes in Business School Accreditation on CPA Exam Success Rates"
Submitted by: Pamela Baker, Ph.D., CPA, CGMA, Associate Professor of Accounting and Robert Maurer, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Health Systems Management
Institution: Texas Woman’s University (Denton, TX)
Grant Amount: $3,100

"Best Practices for Preparing International Students for the Uniform CPA Examination"
Submitted by: Hubert D. Glover, CRMA, CGMA, CRISC, CIA, CMA, CPA, Ph.D., Chair of the Department of Accounting; Jennifer Wright, CPA, Assistant Chair of the Department of Accounting and accounting alumna, Yue Li, M.S.
Institution: Drexel University (Philadelphia, PA)
Grant Amount: $15,000

Spearheaded by NASBA’s Education Committee, the program was established in an effort to advance research on educational matters impacting certificated public accountants (CPAs), the public accounting profession, and State Boards of Accountancy’s charge to protect the public.

The Committee has upheld its annual charge by awarding grants to professors and postdoctoral researchers since 2011. Since the program’s initial launch, more than $100,000 has been awarded to academics representing a total of 21 U.S. institutions.

"NASBA is again pleased to award grants for research on these accounting topics. We look forward to continuing the support of great research and we’re excited to see the results of these two projects once completed," said Alfonzo Alexander, Chief Relationship Officer of NASBA.

Findings from the 2015 grant recipients will be presented during the 2016 NASBA Regional Meetings.

For those interested in being considered for funding in 2016, grant proposals will be accepted August 10 – October 19, 2015, with grantees being selected in January 2016.
